Protect the water
There are many ways to protect the water. They are:
Wetland protection
Nowadays in our country, houses, residential areas, shopping malls, etc. have been built by filling up the wetlands. Did you know that low-lying wetlands play a much more important role than water retention?
Wetlands, on the one hand, hold water and control floods, on the other hand, they absorb harmful substances, conduct pure water underground and in rivers, and help wildlife. Forests also help in the circulation of groundwater and at the same time serve as a refuge for wildlife.
When these are destroyed, the pollution of the river naturally increases. Water pollution will be reduced a lot if measures are taken to protect wetlands and forests. Civil society can also play an important role in this.
Now in our country too, students of schools, colleges and universities are planting trees, cleaning the wetlands, lakes and the shores of the sea and doing public awareness work to prevent water pollution – that is a matter of great hope.

Rainwater control
A major cause of water pollution in urban areas is the flow of rainwater. You know, most areas, including urban roads, are paved, so rainwater can no longer go underground through it.
As a result, rain water with all kinds of garbage and other harmful substances enters the rivers, reservoirs or lakes through sewers and drains and pollutes the water there. How can this be stopped? Is it possible to collect rain water on the roof of the house? Of course this is possible and can be done very easily.
( Protect the water )
The water collected in this way can be used in the garden or flower tub, or even for washing clothes or using the toilet in the bathroom. This will reduce water pollution on the one hand, on the other hand, the pressure on the water supply will be less.
Many of you know that there is a severe shortage of water in many areas of Dhaka city in summer. It has also been observed that in some areas no water is available continuously for 3-4 days. In such a situation holding rain water
If used, it will play a positive role in the management of the entire water supply. In this case, the government, city corporations or civil society can all play an important role. How can rainwater pollution be prevented in places other than homes?
( Protect the water )
We can use any kind of porous material instead of concrete, through which rain water can accumulate underground. Gravel is a substance that can be used instead of concrete. If possible, large holes or canals can be made to retain rainwater. Many large cities in the world have such a system.

Increase public awareness
Do you realize that a large portion of the polluting water in urban areas comes from our homes? We use aerosols, paints, cleaners, pesticides and many other harmful substances and after use we throw away or leave empty containers here and there, which at one stage pollute the water.
Even if we don’t throw them in the right place, water pollution will be reduced a lot. There is no alternative to raising public awareness to reduce pollution in these ways. For this, educational programs and warnings can be broadcast on radio and television.
Even you school students can make people aware of the need for water, shortage and prevention of pollution by making posters. Even in developed countries like Europe and America, various measures are taken by the government to increase public awareness.

Prevention of water pollution by industry
Industrial effluent is a major cause of river water pollution. The best way to prevent this is to purify the wastewater and then dump it in the river.
Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) or ETP is required for this treatment. How ETP is made depends on the type of harmful substances in the wastewater. Since different types of wastewater are discharged from each type of industrial plant, it is not possible to treat all factory wastewater with a simple ETP.
However, an industrial zone can be set up with similar industrial plants and the wastewater from all the factories can be collected and treated in a large ETP.

Prevention of soil erosion pollution from agricultural land
When a crop is cultivated year after year in a land, its fertility is gradually lost, and when fertility is lost, soil erosion is greatly increased. If we increase the fertility of the soil by using organic fertilizers, then it helps to prevent soil erosion. Can you tell me how this is possible?
As the soil is rich in organic matter from organic manure, it helps to retain rain water. As a result, when it rains, it does not flow easily or the soil particles are easily blown into the air and pollute the river water. In addition to soil particles, it also reduces pollution by other harmful substances such as pesticides, nitrogen and phosphorus compounds.
Water pollution can also be prevented by digging ponds around cultivable land. Did you know that the remnants of the crop that remain on the land after harvesting from the field prevent water pollution? Water pollution can also be prevented by changing the type of crop. Pollution can be prevented by not applying fertilizer at the right time, especially just before the rains.

The role of water in development activities
Our country is still an agricultural country. Development of the country is impossible without development of agriculture. And in that agriculture, water is needed for irrigation, that is, development is not possible without water. Are houses built without water?
No, impossible. Again every country in the developed world is highly developed in industry, is there any industrial factory where water is not required? No, no. All industries have to use water at one stage or another. Then we can say that development and water complement each other.
